Our history
Eric Sallee and Cliff Dowdy began the company in 1988. The picture above shows them beside the first of many homes built by Shelter Alternatives. We owe a great deal to their vision and hard work to create the company that now continues their legacy.
In 2005, Ed Tuchler who joined the team as a carpenter on this first home in 1988, purchased Shelter Alternatives, Inc. The company continues to grow and serve residents throughout the New River Valley.
In 2016, we renovated our office in downtown Blacksburg. The 1920’s farmhouse was remodeled to showcase many of the elements that embody a project by Shelter Alternatives and creates better workspaces for our staff. We look forward to continued growth in serving our community where we work, live and play. See our office addition here.
